Microsoft came under Google’s threat when it built a YouTube application for Windows Phone operating system. Google said that ads within YouTube ads were not appearing on Microsoft’s YouTube app thus violating the terms of service. Google asked Microsoft to take down the application by May 22nd. But the company instead updated the application to comply with Google’s terms.
And now, both companies are working together to develop a YouTube app for Windows Phone that satisfies the both parties.
Google spokesperson said that Microsoft and Google will be working together to develop a new YouTube app for Windows Phone that will replace the existing YouTube app from Windows Phone Store.
Google was not very open to let its YouTube APIs be used on Microsoft’s platform. To spice things up, Microsoft took the risk of creating an application for YouTube by themselves, possibly knowing that it would violate the terms and Google would eventually issue them a warning. Google did, but the issue went public thanks to the media. Microsoft’s play was to let people know that they are trying to make YouTube app available for Windows Phone users. It’s all right for Google to issue the warning. The next thing the company should do is work with Microsoft to make a compatible app.
If Google refused and didn’t let Microsoft use the YouTube app in any way, the search giant would come under a great spree of criticism from all sorts of people. But Google is smart enough to understand that it should now work with Microsoft to develop an app that would mutually be beneficial for both Google, Microsoft, and the Windows Phone users who want to watch YouTube apps on their platform.
To be fair, this is one of the smartest moves from Microsoft out of all those stupid ones.
Are you happy that both companies are working together now? Tell us your comments.
